Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
SnapCue Companion (the “Extension”) is a Chrome extension developed by ShopWorks to help users organize their existing Google Photos libraries with album membership labels, timeline organization indicators, quick album assignment, and user-controlled archiving.
The Extension works with Google Photos in your browser and keeps an organizational index and preferences in Chrome extension storage. It uses the information it accesses to provide its photo organization features.
1. Information the Extension accesses
When you use SnapCue Companion on photos.google.com, the Extension may access and process:
- Google Photos photo and video identifiers, associated timestamps, album information, and album membership.
- Whether indexed items are archived, along with information required to perform or verify album and archive actions.
- Google account context needed to keep organization records associated with the correct signed-in account, which may include a displayed account name, email address, or profile image.
- Your extension settings, album rules, scan state, locally maintained album catalog, and activity or operation history.
The Extension may display existing Google Photos images and thumbnails as part of its interface. It does not need access to unrelated websites to provide these functions.
2. How information is used
The Extension uses this information only to provide its disclosed Google Photos organization functionality, including:
- Displaying album membership labels on photos in the main gallery.
- Showing timeline indicators based on known album membership information.
- Indexing albums and their contents following user-initiated scans.
- Supporting quick assignment of selected photos to albums.
- Identifying items eligible for archiving under rules you configure and performing archive or undo actions.
- Saving preferences, recording operation results, and resuming an interrupted user-started scan.
Automatic archiving is evaluated only after a scan initiated by the user, when that feature is enabled. The Extension does not independently schedule recurring library scans or archive operations.
3. Storage and data transmission
The Extension keeps its organizational catalog, preferences, rules, scan state, and related operation records in Chrome extension storage in your browser. Temporary session information may also be held in Chrome session storage.
To carry out scans, album assignments, archiving, and undo actions, the Extension communicates with Google Photos using your existing authenticated Google Photos browser session. These interactions are with Google's service and may change your Google Photos album membership or archive status as directed by your actions and settings.
SnapCue Companion does not require you to create a separate SnapCue Companion account. Your Google Photos content remains subject to Google's own privacy practices.
4. Sharing, advertising, and sale of data
SnapCue Companion does not sell Google Photos information, use it for targeted advertising, or share it with data brokers or advertising networks. Data accessed through Google Photos is used for the features described in this policy, not unrelated profiling or marketing.
When an organization action requires a change to your library, relevant data is transmitted to Google Photos to perform that action. Information you choose to include in a support email is received by ShopWorks for the purpose of responding to your request.
5. Permissions
- Storage: Saves the local photo/album catalog, rules, settings, and scan records.
- Alarms: Recovers a scan that you already initiated if Chrome suspends the background service worker.
- Scripting: Integrates membership labels, timeline indicators, and organization functionality into Google Photos.
- Side panel: Displays Quick Album Assignment next to the Google Photos gallery.
- Host access — photos.google.com: Allows the Extension to work with your Google Photos library; no other website host access is requested.
6. Your controls and data retention
You control when to start scans, which albums and rules to use, and whether automatic archiving is enabled. The Extension retains its locally stored organizational information as needed for its features until you clear the relevant extension data or uninstall it. Uninstalling the Extension removes its Chrome-managed extension storage but does not undo album or archive changes previously made in your Google Photos account.
Removing the Extension does not delete photos or albums from Google Photos. You can manage your photos, albums, and archived items directly in Google Photos.
7. Security
The Extension limits browser host access to https://photos.google.com/* and uses the authenticated Google Photos session already present in the browser. As with any software, no method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
8. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information accessed by the Extension is used only to provide or improve its user-facing photo organization features and related operational functions, and not for personalized advertising or sale to third parties.
9. Third-party service
SnapCue Companion operates within Google Photos, a service provided by Google LLC. Google's processing of information within Google Photos is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. SnapCue Companion is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the Extension's functionality or data practices change. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Material changes to data practices may require additional notice or consent.
